Outside Mount

Outside mount shades are installed on the wall, trim, or door outside the window opening. Provide the exact measurements for the shade size you want to order, as the factory will not make any adjustments.

Inside Mount

Inside mount shades are fitted within the window frame. Be sure to provide the precise measurements of the window opening, not the shade itself. The factory will make a slight deduction to the width to accommodate the hardware and ensure smooth operation.

How to measure

Let’s Make Sure You’re Ready!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A metal tape measure
  • Pen and paper to record your measurements

Check Your Window Depth:

Measure the depth inside the window opening from the front to the back where the shade will be mounted.

  • Minimum Depth: At least 1 ½” is required.
  • Flush Mount (Fully Recessed): At least 3” is required.

If your window depth is insufficient, refer to our outside mount instructions.

How to Measure

Step 1: Measuring the Width

  • Measure the inside of the window frame from left to right at the top of the opening where the shade will be mounted.
  • If rounding is necessary, round down to the nearest 1/8”.
  • This measurement will be your ordering width.

Step 2: Measuring the Height

  • Measure the inside of the window frame from top to bottom on the left, middle, and right sides of the opening.
  • Record all three measurements and circle the tallest one.
  • This measurement will be your ordering height.

Important Notes

  • The factory will reduce approximately 1/8” from the ordering width to ensure a proper fit inside the window opening.
  • Zebra sheer shade fabric will be about **7/8” to 1 3/8” narrower** than the ordering width to allow for roller tube movement within the cassette (approximately 5/8” on each side).
  • If light gaps are a concern, refer to our outside mount instructions for an alternative solution.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A metal tape measure
  • Pen and paper to record your measurements

Check Your Surface Area:

Ensure there’s at least **2 inches of flat space** available for mounting.

How to Measure

Step 1: Measuring the Width

  • Measure the width of the area you want to cover.
  • If space permits, we recommend adding **2-3 inches** (1-1 ½ inches on each side) to minimize light gaps.
  • This measurement will be your ordering width.

Step 2: Measuring the Height

  • Measure the height of the area you want to cover.
  • The factory will make your shade—including the roller or cassette valance (if selected)—to match the height you order.
  • For best results, add 3-4 inches to the height of your opening (including any molding or framework you want to cover) to allow for mounting above the window frame.

Important Notes:

  • Zebra sheer shade fabrics will be approximately **7/8 to 1 3/8 inches narrower** than the ordering width to accommodate roller tube movement inside the cassette (approximately 5/8 inch on each side).
  • This shade is **not recommended for door installation**, as the movement of the door could cause the fabric to shift and telescope off the tube, leading to edge fraying.
